2014-07-08 - Storms
Our family members have been Braves fans since the 1970s. Since we live close to Atlanta, we are able to attend several games per year, in person. Through the years, we have been incredibly fortunate, as far as weather. We have only run into one tornado warning, and one dose of 100-degree heat, from which we were able to escape into the air-conditioned restaurant area right behind us.
But with the volatile weather of the Southeast in the Summertime, there is always a chance that during our 90-minute commute, our half-mile walk from the parking lot, or during a game, we will encounter dangerous weather. With the forecasts and the severe storms around us, it was with great trepidation that we drove to Turner Field for a recent game. However, as it turned out, we ourselves had no problems at any of those points along the way. And in fact, the storms that had passed through the stadium earlier, actually cooled down the oppressive heat, so that the gametime weather was refreshing - and we had no dangers of dehydration. So what we had most feared, turned into a blessing.
Isn't that how it is, in our relationship with God, as well? God takes something that we dreaded, something we didn't want, and something which we begged Him to remove - and He uses that very thing to teach us, to mold us, to refresh us - to bless us.
Romans 8:28 (Msg) " We can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good."
What storms in your life, have turned into refreshments from God?
