2014-06-05 - Worthy
Rev 5:12 saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.
The scene is the throne room of Heaven. Only the Lamb, Jesus, is found worthy to open the seven seal that bind the book shut held in the right hand of " Him who sat on the throne " (Rev 5:1). Jesus was worthy because He had overcome - sickness, blindness, sin and death at the cross.
Messiah had come to this planet to break the power of sin and death over us. He grafted the church in to be partakers of the promises given to the Jews (Rom 11:16-18). It is noteworthy that Paul warns the believers in Rome not to be arrogant in this. But it is an amazing move of grace.
Over the years of His mortal life Jesus humbled Himself. He obeyed His parents when they came and found their son teaching the Doctors of the Law. Jesus asked John the Baptist to baptize Him when John rightly indicated the reverse was more appropriate. The Lord of Creation bowed to Mary's request at the wedding in Cana and turned water into wine. Many were healed by Jesus' touch or His will. He told them not to tell anyone. He took on the duties of a servant and washed His disciples feet. The Great Physician healed the servant of the high priest who had come to arrest Jesus in order to have Him put to death.
He willingly bowed to the Father's will and took the whip, the beating and the crown of thorns, faced the mocking of those He had come to save, suffered the cross and the nails, and reached out to the thief who acknowledged Jesus as his Lord.
Over all the bits of news today - the scandals, the natural disasters, senseless violence and murder bring this scene to mind. The bad news sells ad time. Jesus has paid the debt for each of us that we could have never paid. Bring to mind the grace and mercy that have been poured out on us.
Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
Selah - think on these things.
Lord Jesus - Only You are worthy of our praise and love. The world rattles for our attention and rails against You. While Your commission sends us out to the world Your message and salvation are our focus. Binding up the wounds of the broken and speaking Truth in love, and calling them back to the life You offer. Amen.
Grace & Peace,
