In Second Thessalonians, Paul warns the young believers in the busy seaport of Thessalonica that they would suffer hardships and even persecution for their beliefs. Paul had left abruptly, and he felt the need to express his support for the Thessalonians with an encouraging letter. Paul knew that their beliefs would be tested. In 2 Thessalonians 2:15, Paul wrote, "So then, brothers, stand firm and hold on to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter." (NIV)

Today, just as in the time of the Thessalonians, our faith is under attack. Christian beliefs are laughed at and criticized. In many places, Christians are not allowed to have public prayer or to meet for worship. We are urged to be "politically correct." Our moral values are under attack. How should we respond? Like the Thessalonians, we should stand firm in our beliefs. The Bible is God's book of knowledge given to us. of And God has sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and guide us. We should pray for strength to stand firm in our beliefs, knowing that we are not alone.
