2014-01-01 - Happy New Year
1 John 4:9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.
The well-known spiritual says, "And they'll know we are Christians by our love."
I lost a dear friend to Leukemia the Sunday before Christmas. I was not a lone in this loss. Her life touched so many people.
She lived this life not afraid to try something new - like making lasagna for the first time with guests coming, or walking up to someone she had never met and joining them for dinner at the college cafeteria. She organized reunions for her husband's college friends, and for the friends we shared at our college. She brought people together.
She was a teacher who worked hard for her students. She was a wife and mother, a daughter, a sister and friend who showed us love and loyalty.
This past Saturday the church was standing room only for her funeral. The graveside ceremony was as large as I remember seeing. At the reception people who finished their plates got up to give someone else their seat so they could eat. Memories were shared that made us laugh and recognize the life well-lived by our friend.
She knows Jesus and is waiting with Him for us in Heaven. Until the day we meet again she left a goal to live life and share love, laughter and loyalty every day. They knew by her love. She has run her race, and finished the course. You and I are still running.
Without setting goals they are impossible to achieve. What are your goals? What do you want to leave behind?
