[CF Devotionals] 2013-11-11 - What Would a Lame Man Say?

- - - - - - -

Acts 3:1-20

By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name, and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see. (Acts 3:16 NIV)

There had been nothing extraordinary about the day. I was at the temple gate called The Beautiful Gate. Two men walked past me, and I automatically asked them for some money. I did not blame others for my being disabled, and I tried not to wallow in my circumstances, I just needed some cash to help get by. When you are restricted in movement and can‘t walk, you survive the best way you know how.

The men didn’t have any money, but said they had something else. They had the power to change my life, something better than money. They told me to walk, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Miraculously, it worked. I could walk. I was healed. The Beautiful Gate lived up to its name, for things were beautiful for me now. I started to praise God, walking and jumping into the temple with the two men named Peter and John.

People who saw me inside the temple were amazed. I held tightly to Peter and John, since I was not used to using my legs yet. Peter used my healing as an opportunity to talk to the crowd about Jesus. Peter reminded them of Jesus’ life and death on Earth. Peter did not blame the people for sending Jesus to die, but told them how to repent and turn to God, so He could also bring them refreshment.

Lord, I know You exist and have the power to change things. At times, doubt shows up, and I forget about Your awesome power. Show me how to run doubt out of my mind, so that I can trust You completely. Thank You God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
