Here I was, amazing people with my tricks, and then my audience believed what Philip had to say about the kingdom of God, and my fans were no more. Soon, I too was listening to Philip's words, and somehow and in some way, it clicked.
I believed and was baptized. It surprised even me. It was such a powerful experience, that I began traveling with Philip. Once I learned about God, what I did for a living didn't seem to matter. I was admired and liked for my magic, but in an instant I had little value anymore. All the wonderment of my act couldn't compare to the miracles I was witnessing.
Wow! I was in awe. I was like an audience member of my previous performances, totally captured and amazed at the miracles Philip performed through God.
I saw the disciples laying hands on people, so the people could receive the Holy Spirit. Such power must have a price, so I offered the disciples money to receive this same ability. Peter dismissed me, saying the gift could not be purchased or received by money. Peter was not happy that I could think such a thing.
The way of the Lord was all new to me. It would take some time to adjust. Peter asked me to repent and seek God's forgiveness. Peter even said I was bitter and full of iniquity. I thought I was doing the right thing, just went about it in the wrong way. Your old way of thinking and reasoning doesn't totally leave once you become saved, or at least it didn't for me. I asked Peter to pray for me. I did not want to be bitter. I still had a lot to learn.
Thankfully I was around knowledgeable people who could teach me more about the Lord.
Lord, There are times I desperately need Your presence to get me through a particular situation. What a comfort to recognize You know what I am going to say before it appears in my mind, and yet You still love me, when the words I choose may not be the best choice. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
