2013-07-26 - The Last Place You

be the last place you looked, right? Are people really saying, "Luckily I
was smart enough to call off the search when I found what I was looking for"?
This though implies that there just might be people even dumber. I believe
I might know some of these type people. "Yeah I found my keys three days
ago. But shoot it's been so much fun I just kept on looking for them."
As Bill Engvall said a few years ago, "Here's your sign!"
Nevertheless, we are dumb when it comes to looking for things really or at
least I know I am. I never think to look for God first. Usually turning to
God is kind of a last ditch, used up all my other options kind of thing.
Are you that way too? Again - here's your sign!
But this sign should have a verse from James on it.
James 4:2 - Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire
to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye
ask not.
We try all the earthly sinful ways we can think of to attain something; we
lie, cheat, and destroy. But we don't seek after God's will in prayer. As
it is stated in the Jamieson, Faussett, and Brown Commentary on this passage,
"God promises to those who pray, not to those who fight. The petition of
the lustful, murderous, and contentious is not recognized by God as prayer."
Are you looking everywhere else to fill the longings in your heart? Look
toward God. It will be the last place you look.
