2013-03-09 - Follow Me
"Then come, follow me."--Luke 18:22
Good Friday is only three weeks away. How did Jesus spend the last three weeks before the Crucifixion? He went about teaching about the Kingdom of God, and calling disciples to follow Him. In Luke 18:18-30, we find the story of the rich, young ruler. This man approaches Jesus and asks what he must do to obtain eternal life. Jesus tells him to obey God's commandments. The ruler then replies that he had kept them all his life. Jesus then tells him to sell all his possessions and "follow me." The rich ruler would not give up his wealth, and failed to follow Jesus. He walked away a sad man.
Jesus is calling us today. As Easter approaches, Jesus still calls us to follow Him. Jesus said in Luke 9:23, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." (NIV)
What are you willing to give up to follow Him? Are you willing to give up everything? Will you follow Him?
