2013-02-23 - Our Ever-Present Help
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."--Psalm 46:1 (NIV)
Before he was anointed King of Israel, David was King Saul's military commander. David achieved so much success, that King Saul became jealous of David. Saul eventually tried to kill David, and pursued him across the land. David and his band of followers repeatedly escaped King Saul and his men. We find, in 1 Samuel 23:14, that "Day after day Saul, searched for him, but God did not give David into his hands." David's perils became a time of ever-increasing reliance on God. David repeatedly sought God's guidance. David became to rely on God more and more. His troubles brought him closer to God.
What troubles are you facing today? Many are dealing with illnesses, job loss, financial insecurities, and other problems. The Psalmist tells us that we can rely on God during our times of trouble. He is "our refuge and strength." Will you turn to Him today?
