Matt 8:4 And Jesus said to him, See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them. (NASB)
It is the hope of many.
Parents raise children. Teachers and Istructors pass on collected knowledge and insights to their students as well. The better managers or mentors take interest in their staff and coworkers in developing them to be highly valued members of their teams. All these people have one thing in common. They want to be outdone some day by those they have help to get started or to the next level.
My Pastor's son was in the pulpit for the first time last weekend. His sermon was outstanding - insightful, engaging and instructive. When the father was asked how his son had done the answer was that he had out done his father. That is an increadible thing to be able to say. Some might think that it would be a very sad moment, but it is not. I have been there and it is both humbling and rewarding. There is a next generation and they will do things that you and I have not deemed possible.
The hope of many is to be outdone by those who have been placed in their care.
What are you investing in? Or rather who are you investing in? Jesus invested in the twelve disciples and anyone who would listen to what He had to say. Paul invested in Timothy. Paul and Silas also invested in their jailor! And the good news has flowed down to us two milenia later as the candle is passed over and over again.
Jesus invested in a leper. This one was thought by almost everyone else to be beyond recovery. There were instuctions in the scriptures for a leper who have been cleansed to go to the priests and precent himself for inspection - to be declared clean. I'm not sure those tests had ever been used before Messiah came and touched this one called unclean. But omniscient Lord had placed those instuctions there knowing His Son would come and shatter everyone's expecations about who was worthy. Do you think the jailor or the leper, or the woman who touched the hem of Jesus robes and was healed had nothing to tell others?
Who have you exceeded and how? Who has invested in you and have you made good use of that effort?
It is a life-long endevour - both learning and sharing. Think about that. Selah.
Grace & Peace,
