2013-01-07 - What Would Hagar Say?
"Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation."(Genesis 21:18)
I should be grateful Abraham gave us some water and food, although not much. Once the water was gone, I put Ishmael under a shady tree, for I could not bear to watch my son die - nor should he see me die. I cried. Ishmael cried. There was nothing else to do. I sure could use some comfort and company during this low time in my life.
What is it with me and visiting angels? I am again in the presence of an angel. The angel told me not to fear, that God had heard me. The angel prophesized God would make Ishmael a great nation from his descendants. Phew, my boy would not die; he would be taken care of.
All of a sudden, I saw a well of water. I couldn't be hallucinating, could I? Since when was there water in the wilderness? It had to be God's doing. I took Ishmael's hand and gave him a drink of water. Water never tasted so good.
Lord, You never cease to amaze me. You show up when no one else would. I keep Your words close to my heart. I won't be led astray, because I have seen Your love and concern for me first-hand. Although thanks does not seem to be worthy enough, I thank You for continuing to believe in me. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
What are you grateful for?
