2012-06-23 - Trusting God's Promises
In Numbers 13, God instructed Moses to send some men to explore the Promised Land. Moses called one member of each of the twelve tribes of Israel, to go into the land of Canaan. The twelve found a land "flowing with milk and honey." The men spent forty days exploring the bounties of the Promised Land. When they returned, they gave Moses a compete report. They were impressed by the fruit of the territory, but they also said, "the people who live there are powerful, and their cities are fortified and very large." (Numbers 13: 28 NIV) The majority of the spies were afraid to enter the Promised Land because of these people. Caleb, however, recommended an immediate invasion. But the Israelite community listened to the pessimistic spies, and pleaded with Moses to go back to Egypt.
The Israelites failed to trust in God's promises. They lacked faith. Are we they same way today? Do we lack faith in God's promises? Do we want to go back to our old sinful ways?
God wants us to trust in His promises and to follow Him.
