2012-04-20 - Health and
Wellness
For awhile now, I have been working on getting into better shape through
diet and exercise. I've been working out and watching what I eat. The last
few weeks it has occurred to me that this is a good parallel to spiritual
health too. I can get in better shape by doing things like reading the Bible
not just in passing but diving into it and doing some really heavy
lifting. I can pray. I can attend church. I can do all the spiritual exercises
I want to do but if I continue to eat large amounts of junk I won't get
healthier. At best the two will only offset one another.
As I've been on my weight loss journey, I have killed myself trying to exercise
more while continuing to chow down on fast food and fried foods. Now I am
in better shape because I'm learning to avoid the unhealthy foods. I'm on
a sin loss journey too. And, there have been times, when I have killed myself
trying to do more and more to offset the sin. I really needed a balanced
approach though diet and exercise.
I don't have it all figured out on the spiritual side or the physical side.
My weight is less but I'm not weightless and I try to sin less but I'm not
sinless. Today though, I can control what goes into my mind and body and
I will choose healthier things. And I will get some exercise in too.
I hope you'll let me pray with you as you read this
"God you make things so simple and we try to
make it so complex. Strip it all away and today help me to just concentrate
on being with you. Help me to focus on guarding against the junk that I often
allow in and help me to exercise the wonderful privilege I have of spending
time with you. You are incredible and I just want to worship you with this
day in all that I do. Amen"
Be healthy!
