2011-10-17 - What Would a Business Man Say?
Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.(Matthew 13:45)
I am always interested in getting a good deal for valuable pearls. I just found a bargain; I had to sell everything I own, but I got it, and it's all mine! How many other merchants would have done what I did? They are not as dedicated to the craft as I am. They probably did not want to put their family or home in jeopardy. I can understand that. For me, my work is my family.
The pearl is a gem, one of God's treasures from the sea. It is hard work finding one. You have to carefully pry open a mollusk-type shell, in the hopes of finding a pearl. Many shells turn up empty, and then on rare occasions you find a hard, round jewel and the painstaking work is worth it.
Now I just have to find someone who will give me the best and fairest price for my treasure. It will be hard to part with this pearl, but I have to be practical. I usually get by somehow, but how can a jewel keep me warm or provide me with food? If I keep the pearl, can I really depend on God to meet all my needs?
Lord, show me where my priorities should be. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
