2011-07-09 - The Five Thousand
In the Gospel of Mark, we find the story that we have heard and read of how Jesus turned five loaves of bread and two fish into a meal for over five thousand people. While we can marvel at the miracle of multiplying the small amount into the feast, we also wonder about the circumstances that brought all these people together. In Mark 6:31, we see that Jesus and the disciples decided to go by boat to a secluded place, to rest for a while. Mark 6:33 says, But the people saw them going, and many recognized them and ran there together on foot from all the cities, and got there ahead of them. (NAS)
When Jesus and the disciples got to the shore, He saw the large crowd that had gathered ahead of them. Jesus felt compassion for them and said they were like sheep without a shepherd. What did Jesus do next? He sat them down and taught them many things. (Mark 6:34)
What are we looking for? Where is our attention today? What are we running after? Jesus is ready to have compassion on us and teach us today, just like he did the five thousand nearly 2000 years ago. We can find His teaching lessons in the Gospels, and hear them explained in our churches. He is there when we seek him out. Are you willing to seek Him out today? What is He waiting Him out today? What is He waiting to teach you?
