2011-04-18 - What Would John Say?
When they had rowed three or three and a half miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were terrified. (John 6:19)
Our trip was shorter than expected, thanks to Jesus. We were headed to Capernaum at night, and after rowing three or so miles, we were tired. There was no rest for Jesus' disciples, as the wind picked up and the water got rough. Here were twelve men in the middle of the lake, with fierce waves and strong wind currents - wiping our faces. Then to our astonishment we saw Jesus! He was walking on the water. I and the other disciples were terrified. Wouldn't you be? We had never seen anyone walk on water before.
As soon as Jesus told us not to be afraid, my fear turned to awe of the miracle that was taking place right in front of me. Just as Jesus was reaching the boat, we reached shore. Our journey was miraculously over, and we were saved from the growing waves of the sea, all thanks to the presence of Jesus.
Lord, I admit my faith doesn't expect to see a person walking on water. I often think how neat it would have been to see You perform miracles while on Earth. Show me everyday miracles, so that I don't limit You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
Wouldn't it be neat to walk on water?
