[CF Devotionals] 2011-02-08 - Filmy Lenses

When I was recently birdwatching with my husband, Richard, I noticed that I couldn't see the birds well through our usually-sharp binoculars. With macular degeneration and cataracts in my family of origin's history, naturally, I was becoming concerned about my eyesight. But when we looked closely at the lenses, we discovered there was some kind of film over the lenses (we still don't know what it was). Richard used some of his glasses cleaner on the binoculars, and voila – I could see clearly again!

Isn't it like that sometimes in our Christian walk? Our lenses are filmy, and we need God's cleansing. Perhaps we are continuing in a sin that we have gotten so used to, that we justify it too easily and see it as "not so bad," instead of seeing it clearly s-i-n. Or maybe we have fallen out of a good habit, such as regular Bible reading or prayer. Or perhaps we are in a situation that is difficult (at church, work, home, wherever), and we can only see our side of things, and not the entire picture. Our heart's lenses need regular cleansing by our Heavenly Father.

In what areas of your life do you need God's cleansing?

Psalm 139:23-24 (The Message)
Investigate my life, O God,
find out everything about me;
Cross-examine and test me,
get a clear picture of what I'm about;
See for yourself whether I've done anything wrong—
then guide me on the road to eternal life.
