The Good, the Bad, and the Godly ~ Part 16
"Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family, by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure." (Ephesians 1:4-5)
We have been studying the characteristics of the Lord as our Heavenly parent and caretaker. What about us as His children? The Bible is full of examples of the blessings we receive, when we accept the Lord as our personal Savior and have a real relationship with Him.
For example, John 1:12 tells us that we are a child of God. John 15:16 goes on to say that we are appointed by the Lord. What does this mean in our day-to-day lives on Earth? How do these truths help me, when I oversleep, miss a deadline, or accidentally hurt someone's feelings?
The fact that the Lord is in our corner, even when, or especially when we have no one else to turn to, should lighten our step and help us to feel a weight has been lifted. As His children, we have access to the Lord 24/7. (see Ephesians 3:12). No appointment is necessary. The maker of Heaven and Earth, the God who knows everything and sees all, does not need sleep, wants us to go to Him. He wants us as His. We aren't a mistake. He chose you, and He chose me, as His sons and daughters on purpose.
So the next time the events of the day try to steal your joy, and you can start to feel frustration, resentment, and anger seeping in, recall these Scriptures. Personalize them, say them out loud; personalize them so you and I don't forget who we really are.
Romans 8:14-15 I am a child of God.
