The Good, the Bad, and the Godly ~ Part 13
For the past 12 weeks we've been studying and reading about dads from the Bible. I've been lead to change the focus of the remaining devotionals in this series, from Earthly dads to our Heavenly One. I pray that these writings will comfort you in some way.
I knew I had to talk to God, but all I could say were one-word prayers and praises. My mind hurt, from thinking about all the things I had to do, all the responsibilities. I know there are numerous accounts in the Bible where the Lord was with His people; however, there are days I need an actual person to walk beside me, and offer guidance and wisdom. When I read Exodus 33:12, I sensed I was not alone in my thoughts.
I read Moses' tone as a plea, a prayer of frustration. Moses wanted to know God's will for his life. He, like us needed reassurance. Moses was not going to move forward without God's presence. He knew the Lord made a difference and did not want to lose the Lord's protection. The Lord's response was very concise and factual. It is the answer He gives us today. "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." (Exodus 33:14)
That should be enough to encourage me, but I need more. How will He give me this rest, with all the tasks set before me? In verses 19-23, God doesn't leave us hanging. He will cause all His goodness to pass in front of us. Not a portion of His goodness, all of it!
Whatever we will walk into today, whatever we face, God's righteousness is one step ahead. When we need protecting, God has a place for us. He covers us with His hand. He is not ashamed to be near His children or touch them.
Lord, make this image of Your protection and presence real. In all likelihood, the hardships and decisions I face will not go away today. Let me feel Your glory going ahead of me. Let me feel Your protecting hand. Thank You for not abandoning me. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
