The Ten Commandments, Part 18

Summary / Application

I think of all the commandments that speak to our relationship with the Lord ,this is the one we may find ourselves the most often guilty of violating. It is safe to say this isn't our desire, that in reality, we want to be the kind of representatives that one day will find ourselves before the Lord hearing, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." The way to keep the command is then the most obvious aspect for us as believers. Our life should be typified by the lifting up of God's name. His name should  receive the honor that it is due. This can be done through our words, our walk, all that we are.

Once again, let me repeat Christ's words,

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind " (Matthew 22:37).

What are some ways that we can lift up the Lord's name over the coming weeks? It isn't enough to just live a peaceful life, a life of not violating these commands. Instead, we should be living a life of action, where we worship the Lord, giving Him the first place in our lives, and lifting up His name before all whom we come in contact.

"You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God ?" for our salvation is of that name. "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved," and so if our desire is to glorify the name of the Lord then "? whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (Exodus 20:7; Acts 4:12; Colossians 3:17).
Psalm 8

For the director of music. According to gittith.

A Psalm of David.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the Earth!
You have set your glory
above the heavens.

From the lips of children and infants,
you have ordained praise
because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?

You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings,
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the Earth!
