2010-01-11 - The Scripture Challenge, Part II
Okay. Now that I/we have decided to commit God's word to memory, what's next? Finding appropriate Scriptures. Everyone learns differently. For me, I tend to use the Bible's concordance to look up subjects that I personally deal with and write them out on index cards. Then it's up to me to read the card and to believe what God says.
This week's card, the fluorescent green variety so I cannot miss it, is titled encouragement. As I read the four verses, I notice a theme.
I can cast my cares on God. Psalm 55:22
God protects me from trouble. Psalm 32:7
God can turn a curse into a blessing. Deuteronomy 23:5
I will see the rough times in my life as opportunities to grow. Romans 5:3-5, James 1:2-4
Does this mean I can expect more trouble and misery? Or does it explain why it seems I've faced more hurtles than normal this week? I feel on guard, waiting to see where those aggravations are lurking, so I can stop them in their tracks, instead of being grateful and ecstatic that when I run into misfortunes, God will be there to pick up the pieces.
So with my new positive perspective, I reread my verses on encouragement. Outloud, with gusto.
God gives me opportunities to grow during the rough times. Romans 5:3-5, James 1:2-4
God wants blessings for my life, not curses. Deuteronomy 23:5
I can go to God with all my cares. Psalm 55:22
God protects me. Psalm 32:7
