[CF Devotionals] 2009-10-18 - The Prophets

Study on the Bible, Part 16

Remember Hebrews 1:1. “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets…”

“They (the prophets) were God’s mouthpieces; they were the instruments though which He did speak to Israel, and to us today. Again we must note that it is God speaking through them; not they speaking through God. It was not a two-way street; revelation went from God to the prophets, and through the prophets to us.” 1

Here are some examples: Isaiah, prior to giving God’s words, would say, “The Lord said to me…” … “The Lord spoke to me again” (Isaiah 8:1, 5).

David speaks prophetically, when his last words are recorded. “The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me; his word was on my tongue.” … “The God of Israel spoke; the Rock of Israel said to me” (2 Samuel 23:2-3).

My last example is Jeremiah. “This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations” (Jeremiah 46:1).
