Study on the Bible, Part 15

Finally, we are going to consider witnesses to the reliability of Scripture. The ones I’m offering here are internal. There are also external ones. Check the Bibliography (to be supplied later, and at request at any time) for references works, if you want to do additional research.

  1. Jesus: “I tell you the truth, until Heaven and Earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” (Matthew 5:18).
“You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me” (John 5:39).

John Warwick Montgomery makes the following comments about Jesus and Scriptures:

“Christ’s attitude toward the Old Testament was one of total trust; nowhere, in no particular, and on no subject, did he place Scriptures under criticism. Never did he distinguish truth “in faith and practice” from veracity in historical and secular matters, and he told the Evil Foe, in no uncertain terms, that man lives “by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matt. 4:4, quoting Deut. 8:3). To his apostles, under whose scrutiny the New Testament would be written, he promised his Holy Spirit, who “shall bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26, cf. 2 Peter 3:15, 16).” 1
