Study on the Bible, Part 13

There are numerous views of how inspiration works. I don’t want to take the time to enumerate them here. What I will do is give you the one that is the correct one, the one we hold to. Let me quote from Willmington here:

“The plenary-verbal theory—that all (plenary) the very words (verbal) of the Bible are inspired by God.” 1

Consistent with the Word’s trustworthiness is the truth of its inerrancy, as we have already noted. Paul Feinberg as defines inerrancy as:

“Inerrancy means that when all facts are known, the Scriptures in their original autographs and properly interpreted will be shown to be wholly true in everything that they affirm, whether that has to do with doctrine or morality or with the social, physical or life sciences.” 2

This is a broader view of scripture than the one that says it is only reliable in matters of doctrine and faith. Here we recognize the total reliability of God’s Word, its divine inspiration.
