2009-09-08 - Labor Day Devotional
The first Monday of September is celebrated in the US as Labor Day, in honor of the hard work done by people in various positions, year-round. Today, we at CF Devotionals Ministry would like to say thank you to everyone for all your hard labor, and we hope that as many of you as possible will have a relaxing day of rest and / or recreation. We also urge everyone to keep in prayer all those who are searching for work, but unable to find any. Now with we will see what the Bible has to say about work. All verses are from the New American Standard Bible (NASB).
If we are able, we are all expected to work - whether in the home or elsewhere, whether for pay or as a volunteer.
And we are to look at it as a blessing.
Ecclesiastes 3:13 (NASB) moreover, that every man who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor--it is the gift of God.
We should always keep in mind our True Boss.
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, (A)as for the Lord rather than for men.
And we aren't to expect or accept a "free ride," getting "something for nothing." As able, we should all do our part, and earn the benefits we reap. The Apostle Paul even said basically, no work means no food! (See v. 10.)
2 Thessalonians 3:7-10 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you, nor did we (eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you; not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you, so that you would follow our example. For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.
