[CF Devotionals] 2009-07-03 - Why?

Why do I have to get sick? Why am I always tired? Why do bad things happen to me? Why? Why? Why?

Perhaps you've asked questions like this of things in your life. I know there are many times I ask questions like that. Why? Why? Why?

But maybe just maybe I am asking the wrong question. When all the bad things happened to job a bunch of people assumed he wanted to know why. All of his friends were fast to give him reasons for why the bad things happened. Then God showed up. Read Job 38 and 39. The question that God keeps saying is not "Why?" but "Who?"

Next time something bad happens. Don't ask, "Why did this tragedy happen?" Instead ask, "Who is in control?" When our focus shifts from the problem to The Solution our heart can rejoice. Bad times seem like a smaller deal when we look at the one who conquered Death and Hell. Bad times seem smaller when we stare at the Creator of the universe.

Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus
 Helen H. Lemmel, 1922

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There's light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Who indeed!
