2009-05-09 - Not of This World
In Jesus' garden prayer, he tells God that his disciples are not of this world in the same way that he is not of this world. (John 17:14) A short time later he stands before Pilate and states, "My kingdom is not of this world." (John 18:36) As Christians we do not belong to the world and are not part of its ways. In fact Paul tells us Romans 12:2 (NIV), "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will."
We are to let go of this world - let go of its morals, possessions, and thought patterns. We don't have value because of what we have or how we look but rather we have value because God gave his son to pay for us. We are a precious jewel not because we wear the right clothes or talk the right way but because we are children of the King of Glory - because the Creator of the universe loves us and chose us as his own.
When life gets you down do not forget that this is just a short visit in a strange world and one day we will be home.
