91:4 (NLT)
Without fail, there's a bird chirping every morning outside my window. Its
melody is better than the buzz of the alarm clock. After its harmonious tune,
the bird goes on to finding worms in the yard. Other winged friends join
the chorus and use the lawn to find nourishment. Several find a swinging
house designed just for them. Others opt for the ground under the birdhouse,
to pick at the leftover seeds. In Psalm 91, God chose to emulate unique bird
qualities and compare them to how He protects us. God uses His wings to guard
us, and God uses His feathers to cover you and me. He knows what we need.
God invites us under His wings for protection. With God as our protector,
there is no need to fear day and night (verse 5). With this new knowledge,
how can we let fear control even a crevice of our being?
God, Forgive me when I have been afraid. I want to put
Psalm 91 into practice and cast my cares on you, my refuge and protector.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
