2009-02-08 - The Holy Spirit in Pentecost
The Holy Spirit Series, Part 6
The Holy Spirit in Pentecost: The Holy Spirits involvement in Pentecost changed the dynamic by which He is involved with those who follow after the Lord. Jesus was the one who announced the changing role of the Holy Spirit, when He promised the Spirits coming to His disciples.
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth (Acts 1:4-5, 8).
Christ promised something new and different.
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come (John 14:26, 15:26, 16:7, 12-13).
