2009-01-19 - True Forgiveness
Thump. I know that sound. It signalizes the potential trouble awaiting one
of my cats. I check out the scene where the sound came from, and sure enough,
Gibby is at it again, sitting on the dining room table. She sees me and doesn't
try to move. Instead, she accepts her punishment, an early bath from a spray
bottle, and goes on with her day as I do. Later, she nuzzles against me,
wanting some love and attention. It never occurs to me not to pet her, even
though I punished Gibby earlier. My love for Gibby did not diminish because
of her action or mistake. Just as the Lord sees past our imperfections.
God knows my faults. He knows your faults, and contrary to how we may feel
about ourselves, He is ready to surround us with His love. I took comfort
in God's forgiveness, and read the consoling words of David found in
Psalm 32. "Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is
forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record
the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!"
(Verses 1-3 NLT)
Lord, Please reveal if there is any unforgiveness in
my heart. I receive Your forgiveness right now. When I am faced with temptation,
help me not to fall into it; You do provide a way out. I just have to be
brave and bold enough to take it. Amen.
