2009-01-18 - The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit in Creation: Just as was Jesus, the Holy Spirit was involved in the work of Creation, being part of the Godhead, and in existence prior to that historical moment.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth. Now the Earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters (Genesis 1:1-2).
In Psalm 33, the psalmist describes the role of the Holy Spirit.
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the Earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm (Psalm 33:6-9).
He was involved in all aspects of the creation, and for our interest, specifically with the creation of Man. We know that because the words us and our is referring to God speaking within His Godhead, to the observers of His work, the heavenly host.
Then God said, Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the Earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them(Genesis 1:26-27).
