2008-09-16 - God's Writing
There are the three occurrences of God writing that are mentioned in the Bible. Below are just the verses but take some time to read each in context.
Deuteronomy 5:22 - These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.
In Deuteronomy, God wrote the Ten Commandments on tablets of stone establishing the law. In Daniel, God's fingers write pronouncing judgment based on a wicked king's violation of the law. Finally in John, we find God writing in the dirt. An adulteress has been brought before him by the Pharisees but this time he provides a lesson in grace.
In these passages we see the defining of God's law, the consequences of breaking that law and rejecting him, and the mercy that he offers if we accept him. It is good to live in the New Testament era.
