2008-04-14 - What Do I Need with the
Armor of God?
Part 8 ~ Prayer
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds
of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying
for all the saints. (Ephesians 6:18 NIV)
During our study of the armor of God, we have talked about each of the seven
pieces in detail. At least our armor of God doesn't take up a lot of room.
The Godly uniform doesn't need to be washed or drycleaned, but does come
with special care instructions. There is no need to be self-conscious, for
the armor will be a perfect and customized fit. Style and color won't be
an issue, for the armor is suitable for all occasions. Although the armor
of God isn't found on any clothing racks or in any catalogs, it is essential
to daily living.
Today's devotional will touch on the last part of our ensemble: prayer.
Prayers do matter. Jesus asked three of His disciples to pray for Him. (See
Mark 14:32-42, Luke 22:40-46, and Matthew 26:36-46.) Jesus put a lot of faith
in their prayers. He thought it would make a difference. They fell asleep
and missed the opportunity. Jesus told the disciples to wake up. His years
of ministry were leading up to this upcoming moment: for the first time in
His Earthly existence, Jesus would be separate from God, His father, and
would experience excruciating physical pain and abuse. Had Peter, James,
and John knew the ramifications and horror awaiting Jesus, perhaps the men
would have made an effort to stay awake. What opportunities have we missed,
when we give into the flesh?
Lord, Help me not to miss an opportunity to pray for someone in need. In
Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
