2008-02-21 - Seek = Find
Isaiah 55:6, "Seek the Lord while He many be found; call
upon Him while He is near."
There are a good number of passages of Scripture that admonish us to seek
the Lord. They tell us that seeking the Lord is a good thing. They would
tell us, if we would hear them, that if we seek the Lord, we will find Him.
What a blessing this is. But I know there are some reading this who do not
believe this applies to them. I would like to address you first. I know there
is someone who, secretly, in the back of their mind, is thinking, "It is
not true that if I seek the Lord I will find Him. This is not true for me.
My sin is too great. If I seek, I will not find. You don't know my past."
My friend, if is for you that I am writing this. And I speak sober words
of truth to you: If you seek, you will find. God has promised. He never lies.
If you seek mercy, if you ask for forgiveness from all your past, you shall
have it. There is little mystery in this. It is a promise from God Himself.
If you seek, you will find. "If you seek Him, He will
let you find Him," 1 Chronicles 28:9.
There is a false understanding with many that there all sorts of prerequisites
or qualifications to one who would seek Christ. This is not true. Some unwisely
think that they must have their house in order (their lives) before Christ
will be a visitor to them. My friend, again, you have it all wrong. Christ
is already a visitor in your life. He knows all about you. He knows the things
about you that you are trying not to remember, and, yet He still says,
"Come to me," Matthew 11:28. It is not our task
to get ourselves ready to seek the Lord. It is our duty to seek Him, as we
are. The promise is that the one who seeks the Lord will find Him.
Others think that they cannot seek the Lord themselves, but that if there
were someone to help them get in God's favor
maybe a saint from bygone
years
if there were someone - someone better -- at least better than
them, working as a representative for them with God, well, then maybe God
would be gracious to them. This is a great delusion, but there are many who
pray to saints, or seek out a priest to be a mediator between them and Christ.
Human mediators, whether living or departed, cannot stand between your soul
and the Father. Only Jesus Christ fills that office. You must seek Him yourself.
Christ Himself says, "Seek, and you shall find," Matthew
7:7. He does not tell us to find someone to help us seek. He does
not tell us to find someone to seek on our behalf. Jesus Christ promises
us, He promises you, that if you will seek Him, you will find Him. We must
seek Him ourselves, but the promise is breathtaking. The promise is that
we shall find, if we seek. God cannot lie.
We have lost communion with God because of Adam's Fall into sin, and because
of our own sin. We have only alienated ourselves from God by our lives. The
wonder is that, through Christ, our case is not hopeless. Jesus Christ offers
full atonement (forgiveness, release) from our sin. What a blessing it is
that all those that seek Him will certainly find Him.
Soli Deo Gloria,
