Chapter 9: Part 4 ~ Installment 71
Verses 11b-14: And the result of the sin, the rebellion? ... Those
judgments and curses that had been given by God through Moses in conjunction
with the Law. God had warned the people that if they carried on the same
kind of sinful behavior as those they were to replace in the land, they too
would find themselves outside the door of Canaan.
"'See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a
curse'"..."However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully
follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses
will come upon you and overtake you:"..."... The LORD removed them from his
presence, as he had warned through all his servants the prophets. So the
people of Israel were taken from their homeland into exile in Assyria, and
they are still there" (Deuteronomy 11:26, 28:15; 2 Kings 17:23).
Daniel is aware that all that has happened to the nation has occurred because
of disobedience to the Law of Moses. The suffering should have been foreseen,
because it had been promised as a result of disobedience. And the saddest
thing about all of this was that God's discipline did not cause the people
to repent and turn to Him for relief. God's judgment is deserved, and He
is righteous; therefore His works are righteous. But the people still rebelled.
