2007-09-26 - Creative
Creations
Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning God created.
From the very beginning, Our God has been a creative God. And we find a few
verses later that he created us in his image. (Genesis 1:27) We were created
to be creators. Now don't hear me wrong. I am not saying we can speak things
into existence but man has the special ability to make something of his
surroundings. Sure, a bird may take pine needles and build a nest and a beaver
may take the trees and build a dam but that's just not the same thing. Only
man can take flowers and shrubbery and make a garden. Only man can harness
the power of electricity and cast light and shadow on things he has made.
I was thinking of how our creativity reflects our relationship to God. We
seek to express ourselves in creative ways except in the lowest darkest parts
of our mind and society. In a "good" community, you find bright fresh paint
and flower gardens galore. In contrast, in the darkest parts of town where
sin and crime run rampant, you see buildings falling into disrepair, crackling
paint, and grass growing wild in street crack and unkempt in abandoned lots.
Sometimes in the midst of those dark neighborhoods, you'll find some little
old lady with flowers on her front porch - a shining light in a pit of despair.
In a sense, that is what we are all to be. We are all called to live in this
world but to set ourselves apart from it. We are called to create life and
joy rather than bring gloom and despair.
Are you creating a better world? Are you conforming to the image of the creator
God or are you following the prince of this world who wants only to bring
death and destruction?
John 10:10 - The thief cometh not, but for to steal,
and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that
they might have it more abundantly.
How will you better the world for God's glory today?
