2007-07-31 - A Thought from the
Cross
Luke 23:33 - And when they were come to the place, which
is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on
the right hand, and the other on the left.
"And God said" - this phrase is repeated eight times with all the parts of
creation. Seven times God speaks saying, "Let there be _____ and there was
_____." However, the eighth time is special; God does not say, "Let there
be", but rather, "Let us make". God spoke all of creation into existence,
all but one very special thing. He created man from clay.
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground,
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living
soul.
(Genesis
2:7)
He designed our minds with his own hands. His hands formed our heart. His
fingers stretched clay to form our bones. As he shaped us, he designed the
wrists to support his weight on a nail. As he formed our ribs, he left room
for a spear to pierce his own side. As his fingers slid across the dusty
back of Adam, he knew just where each lash of a Roman whip would tear into
his own back.
And he made us anyway!
That just gives me goose bumps. Take a minute and look at your own arms and
legs. Look at your face in the mirror. You are formed by God. You are loved
by God. God took your wrists to Calvary; he took your feet to the cross.
He took within himself the broken bodies of us all, and through his death,
we can all be remade.
2 Corinthians 5:21 - For he hath made him to be sin for
us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Isaiah 53:5 - But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon
him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Galatians 3:13 - Christ hath redeemed us from the curse
of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every
one that hangeth on a tree:
