2007-07-30 - The Life of the Word

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14 (NKJV)

Christ did indeed become flesh and dwell among us. But do not think He does not continue to do so, for every time the Word is received, He again becomes flesh. Elmer Towns, a teacher of teachers, said "The ultimate purpose of teaching is that the gospel will change the lives of its hearers."

As each of us hears the Word and receives it into our hearts, the Word becomes part of our flesh. The more it becomes real to us, the more it thrives, living through us and touching others. Similarly, as the Word is absorbed into our very being - not only do we behold His glory, but we also receive His grace and truth. We, as Christians, are to take the Word and give it a place to abide. This happens as it becomes more and more real to us, thus causing the laity to become walking examples of Christ ... teachers, in essence.

Father, thank You for Your Word in my life and for those who bring life to the Word, that it may become as intimate to me as my own flesh. Come now and reside within me, that others may see Your glory, full of grace and truth. AMEN!
