2007-07-10 - This Day

Matthew 6:11 - Give us this day our daily bread.

Where I work at there used to be a pool table we could use on breaks. It's no longer there so several of us play cards in the break room. I enjoy playing pool and cards but I'm not that good at either. I think playing games like these is the Lord's way of teaching me humility. Just when I think I'm getting good, I miss an easy shot or discard the wrong card at just the right time for another player.

Sometimes I get caught up thinking, OK I can get the 10 ball then 13 then be set up on the 8. Well in that aspect, pool is a lot like life. Too often, we worry about the shot after this when we need to concentrate on the first one. Worry about today. We are to take things one day at a time, put our efforts in today and let tomorrow take care of itself. If you look too far ahead, you lose sight of that which is right in front of you.

Lord - give me just what I need for this day for this very hour that I may continue to come to you and ask for more of you to be poured out on me. Amen.
