Installment 51 ~ Chapter 6
Sometimes what goes around comes around. The king was furious about being
tricked and forced into the position of putting Daniel to death. So he gets
his revenge. Those who tried to destroy Daniel are themselves destroyed,
along with their families. And by the way, for those who say the king drugged
the lions, or they weren't hungry, they certainly didn't seem to have any
problem of disposing of these individuals.
Verses 25-28: So another king puts out a pro-God proclamation. Doesn't
it sound familiar
"Then Nebuchadnezzar said, 'Praise be to the God of Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They
trusted in him and defied the king's command and were willing to give up
their lives, rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. Therefore
I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against
the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces, and their houses
be turned into piles of rubbble, for no other god can save in this way.'"
(Daniel 3:28-29).
Darius acknowledges the reality of who God is. He demanded awe and respect
for the God of Daniel. He acknowledged God's working in saving Daniel. And
Daniel continued to be a testimony for God in the current government. Whether
Darius moved from his own idolatry, to know God as the one true God, is not
spelled out. Any comment would be speculative.
