2007-05-07 - God's Voice ~ God's Timing

If anyone had a right to walk away with unforgiveness in his heart, it's Jesus. Yet, Jesus hung up on that cross and lovingly asked forgiveness for those who hurt and wronged Him. Who are we then, not to do the same? As Max Lucado wrote in the Inspirational Study Bible (NKJ) concerning Matthew 22: "If you have suffered or are suffering because of someone else's words, you'll be glad to know there is a balm for this laceration.....Did you see what Jesus did not do? He did not retaliate. He did not bite back. He did not say, "I'll get you!" He left the judging to God. He did not take on the task of seeking revenge. He demanded no apology. He hired no bounty hunters and sent out no posse....if ever a person deserved a shot at revenge, Jesus did. But he didn't take it. Instead, He died for them." "Next time you face criticism, consider how Jesus carefully chose His words and used Scripture to answer his opponents."

Knowing and understanding that Jesus used scripture in response to forgiveness, I believe it becomes easier for us to see how much better God's words are than our own? Left to our own devices we would probably cut that person to the quick. We may even be tempted to do so using scripture. But when using scripture as a tool against wrath, it's important to keep in mind the verses Matthew 12:33-37 as well as Luke 6:41 and before we say it, make sure it's God's choice of words. I suggest that before speaking - you pray about it. Give it God's voice....and timing.
