2007-04-03 - Sampson or Job
Are you a Samson or a Job? This may seem like a weird question but consider
these few verses about Samson and Job.
Judges 14:1 - And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw
a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.
Judges 16:1 - Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there
an harlot, and went in unto her.
Job 31:1 - I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then
should I think upon a maid?
Job 31:9-10 - If mine heart have been deceived by a woman,
or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door; then let my wife grind unto
another, and let others bow down upon her.
So do you have wondering eyes that look upon the opposite sex and lead you
astray or do you purposefully look away and set your mind on better things?
Sin is always a choice. Remember, sin started with a look.
Genesis 3:6-7 And when the woman saw that the tree was
good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired
to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also
unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were
opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together,
and made themselves aprons.
In fact, when it comes to lust, looking is a sin.
Matthew 5:28-29 - But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh
on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in
his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from
thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish,
and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Will you be Samson and let your eyes wander from sin to sin until like him
your life is destroyed by it or will you covenant with yourself before God
to not look longingly at another person? Samson or Job - Sorrow or Joy -
the choice is yours.
Psalms 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes:
I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
