Why do those in political power make the decisions they do? I am in good company in my questioning. During his lifetime David wondered why leaders went against God's anointing. In Psalm 2, David speculated why "the rulers plot together against the LORD and against his anointed one." (Ps 2:2 NLT) Why put oneself in a situation without protection? Why would those in political authority want to fail on purpose? Is it the sheer delight of being in power?
God won't let the unjust go scot-free. Verses 10-12 declare: "Be warned, you rulers of the earth! Serve the LORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling. Submit to God's royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities, for his anger flares up in an instant." What can be done? Pray. Pray that those who disagree with God's ways will have their eyes opened for "what joy for all who take refuge in him!"
Lord, We pray for those who hold political office and ask that they will use sound judgment and Godly wisdom when making decisions. May their conscience be clear and may they be grounded in You, the one true God. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
