2007-02-01 - Stain Removal
Isaiah 64:6 - But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
My husband, Jeff, wanted to paint the enclosures for some of our payphones a new color. He prepared them to be painted; and then, since he was using a pressure blower to propel the paint, he covered the shelves, dryer and freezer so that the blue wouldn't be painted on them, too.
While he painted, the boys and I went for a hike in a local park. When we returned and walked into the house, the first smell to hit our noses was paint. I walked out into the garage to see the enclosures. They were a beautiful shade of blue.
Unfortunately, the floor is tinted blue now, too, there is also a blue hue to the walls, some wood that was behind him, his workbench, and the door. Blue seeped under the door and about an inch into the house. The only things that he wanted to paint blue were the enclosures, but in spite of his best efforts, it still went elsewhere.
People say that they are going to heaven because they are good people. If I compare myself to a person lying drunk in the gutter I look pretty good. But if I compare myself to God in Heaven, suddenly I don't look as good. Strangely, the only thing that changed is the comparison.
God said that all of the good stuff that I have done is stained by all of the bad stuff that has passed through the human race through Adam.
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.
People say that Jesus Christ was a good man. Some say that He was a prophet. Simon Peter said, "Thou are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Since He wanted to have a relationship with us, God had to do something to eliminate in us the problem that has permeated since Adam. If He had have just made us "good", it wouldn't be love that created the relationship. If He left us in our sin, we would always be a sinking smell to His nostrils and the relationship would be stained.
So, He created the solution. He stepped out of Heaven and came to earth and was a born a man, a perfect man. He obeyed the Law to the letter. God the Son lived in complete harmony with God the Father and then gave Himself to be the ransom -- the payment -- the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Somehow His life is passed to those who believe, and His death takes our place.
Romans 5:18-21 Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover, the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: that as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
And I am no longer blue.
Oh, my Dear Lord, I thank You so much for sending Your Son to remove the stain of my sin. I thank You that I no longer have to live under sin, Jesus' death removed the power, the penalty and someday the presence of sin from my life. What a blessing! I didn't even know I was a sinner, but You did, and took care of that problem for me. What love! Thank You for grace that abounds. Thank You for life, eternal life through Jesus Christ Your Son. I love You, Lord. Amen
