[CF Devotionals] 2006-10-17 - Language Barrier

Sometimes there are just no words to say adequately how God touches you. I wanted to share something I learned this weekend on a retreat but the words just fail me. It's a life changing thing for me but try as I can to put it on paper it just couldn't come out. It's like some kind of language barrier or something.

You see God's lessons don't come in words but in Spirit. We may read the scriptures or hear a message from a preacher but God translates those words floating around in our heads into a language of our spirit. That is why we must come to him not just in body in mind but in spirit and truth.

John 4:23-24 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

I don't want to sound like some new-age guru but we must transcend this flesh and the concerns of our mind and learn to speak with God in spirit. That is the heart of true worship. Ask him to speak to you. Read his word, reflect on it, pray to him and ask him to speak to you. Meditate on his truth. Then silence the noise around you and inside you. Sit and listen for his voice in your spirit.

He will speak to you if you seek him as he says. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (Matthew 7:7) And don't be surprised if words fail you too.
