2006-06-20 - God & Dorks
A couple weeks ago, I was roaming the halls of church for a quiet moment
during Vacation Bible School when one of the older kids told me I was their
home skillet.
So then I tried thinking of something to say back. Visions of pots and kettles
calling each black flashed through my brain. I began to think that maybe
I should tell this girl that she is my home pan or perhaps a nice wok. As
you can tell, I did not know how to respond. I wasn't sure if being a 'home
skillet' is a good thing or bad thing. I didn't know to feel complimented
or insulted. Was this preteen patronized me with witty banter in front of
her peers or what? I didn't have a clue. "Well umm okay - thanks," I said.
I felt like a dork. I imagine many of the teachers didn't speak the language
of the younger generation either. Perhaps we were just dorks. nevertheless,
we dorks got something right; we talked about Jesus and in our one week VBS
a few came to know Jesus as their personal Savior.
See God uses dorks to get to those who know it all. It even says so in the
Bible.
1 Corinthians 1:26-29 For ye see your calling, brethren,
how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble,
are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world
to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to
confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the
world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which
are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh
should glory in his presence.
Praise God, I am a dork. Won't you be one too?
