2006-04-14 - The Last Seven Words of Christ ~ Final
Part
Luke 23:46 (NASB) And having cried with a loud voice,
Jesus said, `Father, to Thy hands I commit my spirit;' and these things having
said, he breathed forth the spirit.
To whom or what are you committed? What / who will you stay with, through
thick and thin? How about your favorite sports team? My husband and I have
always been faithful Braves fans, but when we first moved to Georgia in the
80s, when he asked coworkers about buying tickets, they looked at him as
if he were an alien species. "Why would you want to do that?!" they exclaimed.
That week, went to a game with only 2000 fellow fans. Several years later,
when the Braves led their baseball division. tickets were scarce and valuable.
"Fair weather fans."
Are you a "fair weather Christian?" Or are you committed to God, thick or
thin? If you lose your home in a tornado or hurricane, or lose a beloved
family member to cancer, will you remain faithful to God? What if you go
from being healthy to being paralyzed for life? Would you still be able to
say along with Job (1:20), "The LORD gave and the LORD
has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised"?
What if you were hanging on a cross, feeling forsaken by God, and dying a
torturous death usually reserved for criminals, as Christ did for us? Even
after the unimaginable physical and emotional suffering, Christ commirted
himself fully to God. Can we do any less?
I hope each of you has a Joyous Easter!
