Christmas Eve 2005

Ever since I was a girl in elementary school, it was my job to put up the crèche. That role hasn't changed, and it is something I look forward to every Christmas. When I unwrapped the wooden manger and ceramic figures this year, my eyes looked at the baby Jesus figurine. I have looked at this figure for many years, but never looked beyond Jesus' delicate face. His eyes painted to represent peaceful sleep. I at times wish I could shut my eyes from the outside world and grasp peace. In our society, Christmas can be a time of hustle and bustle, not the real reason for the season. This year I plan to take frequent gazes at the baby Jesus; hopefully I will see my face in His.
