2005-12-24 - Christmas
Memories
Christmas Eve 2005
Ever since I was a girl in elementary school, it was my job to put up the
crèche. That role hasn't changed, and it is something I look forward
to every Christmas. When I unwrapped the wooden manger and ceramic figures
this year, my eyes looked at the baby Jesus figurine. I have looked at this
figure for many years, but never looked beyond Jesus' delicate face. His
eyes painted to represent peaceful sleep. I at times wish I could shut my
eyes from the outside world and grasp peace. In our society, Christmas can
be a time of hustle and bustle, not the real reason for the season. This
year I plan to take frequent gazes at the baby Jesus; hopefully I will see
my face in His.
And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him
in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for
them in the inn. In that region there were shepherds living in the fields,
keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood
before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were
terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for see I am bringing
you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in
the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord." Luke 2:7-11
(NRS)
Lord, May I reflect Your peace throughout the year.
In Jesus? name I pray, Amen.
