2005-09-08 - See It Through
Luke 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered
them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. (KJV)
Katrina was a category five hurricane that will probably stand next to the
Galveston hurricane in the memories of Americans. In the end there may be
more than 10,000 souls lost to the storm and flooding. It is very likely
that there are still people stranded in attics that may not be found before
they too slip from this life. Many will be snatched away from this awful
fate, thanks to wonderfully trained rescuers and their supporting casts.
The politics is already starting to play out, even before the water has been
half pumped out of the flooded city of New Orleans. Alabama and Mississippi
are still reeling as well. There are believers who say we need to stay out
of this political arena because it is so corrupted. That is not occupying
until He comes. The political system is a mess. All the more reason that
those are led by the Light should be there putting the spotlight on the right
path.
The relief effort of feeding, clothing and resettling a large number of refugees
will also take time. When the news media no longer finds the story interesting,
remember the people with prayer, donations, time and encouragement. Because
the world has moved on to the next interesting thing that comes across their
television sets does not mean that there is not work to be done. Those hurting
people who are shown the love of Christ will often ask what motivates someone
to help them. The door is open to tell them about a Savior that pulled us
out of the mire when all seemed lost.
The tsunami in southeastern Asia is still a work in progress. There are so
many open doors there from grateful people who had been told that Christians
were anything but caring and concerned for others. The world, and even America,
is filled people who have never seen the love of God in action. These otherwise
terrible events are also opportunities to show those in need that someone
cares about them, because Jesus first loved us.
Occupy until He comes. See it through.
Grace & Peace,
Mike
