2005-08-16 - Christ's Name Is Above Every Name

Isaiah 9:6, And His name is called Wonderful, Counseller, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
In this devotional, we see the incomparable excellency of Christ presented to us. You may note the verse and the tense used in it. My version translates the phrase, "His name will be called". The idea being, it seems, that since the appearance of Christ was future, it must be "will be called". However, the Hebrew does not say this. It is interesting that the Hebrew says, "His name is called". Christ, the eternal Son of the Father, was in residence with Him even when Isaiah was written, 700 or so years before His earthly appearance.
Focus: The name of Christ is a name above every name, and is fit to commend Him to the souls of poor sinners.
The Kings and Princes, Queens and Bishops all have there names of significance. There are many glorious names that we all know. But there is no name among them like the name of Christ. No name is so high, so honorable, sweet and lovely. No name is such that it can make the sinner glad as the precious name of Christ.*
Soli deo Gloria,
*Editors note: I do not believe the remainder of the devotional was written by our author Tim. However, since I am currently unable to contact him, and because a reference to the author's name was apparently indavertently left out in 1996, I am only able to say "author unknown." If anyone knows who wrote this, please let me know, and we will attribute proper credit on the website. Thank you.
